Story
Underriver and the Wider community pulling together for many good causes to Remember Libby Notley.
A sponsored activity to complete 45 miles (72.5 km), the distance from Underriver to Canterbury between Saturday 14th May – Sunday 3rd July 2022. Anyway that you can........
Libby Notley passed away in May 2021 after losing a short fight to a very aggressive cancer. Libby was known to all, was active in many aspects of Underriver village life and was one of St Margaret’s Church Wardens. Alongside being an ardent supporter of the village and the local community, Libby spent a significant part of her life in recent years, supporting a number of good causes. Many were orientated around mental health, a focus she had developed over her working career. Libby was also passionate about the environment, sustainability and locally, on re-wilding. In the Spring of 2021, Libby had started the ball rolling on a fund-raising event to both support those projects close to her heart and to also strengthen the Underriver community.
Libby, a keen walker, came up with the idea of covering the equivalent distance of one of the local long-distance paths – the Pilgrims Way. She wanted to give people the option to cover the distance however they felt most comfortable and, to give people the option to complete it individually or, if a distance of 45 miles felt too much of a challenge, as part of a team.
Libby’s illness and the pandemic threw something of a spanner in the works and led us to postpone the event. We now intend going to go forward with the plans on the anniversary of her death.
Fundraising will be for 3 local mental health charities: West Kent Mind's Skiffle Express, Fegans and Tunbridge Wells Mental Health Resource, as well as Hospice in the Weald.
