Bike to the Bard 2021 all's well that ends well! Named for its final destination, this new route will travel from Weybridge as originally planned with a first stop over in Oxford, on to Bristol and then finishing in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Story

Our intrepid team of cyclists varies in experience, strength and speed but one thing that's common to all is the determination to finish what we start and raise as much money for Grocery Aid as possible.

We'll be taking on the daunting 3 day Wales Coast to Coast in July with it's constant and incredibly steep climbs followed by The Bike to the Bard, London - Oxford - Bristol - Stratford upon Avon in September.

Working in the Grocery Industry GroceryAid is close to all our hearts. Their work provides medical, financial and mental health support to colleagues old and new, retired and current. Last year 17,000 people benifeited from their help and that number continues to rise, not least due to the effect of Covid-19. Now more than ever they need our help to continue to help others.

*UPDATE* Team success in Wales. Team Booker has completed the first leg of their 2021 Double Header, 240 Miles and 20,000ft of Mountain Climbing in Record Breaking heat!

Meet the team...

Victoria Read, the youngest and doubtless fastest member of the team. Her most challenging ride to date was from Penrith to John O'Groats. She would love to ride the Pacific Coast Highway in California

Mike Kirby, 47. Spends his time training against the bitter winds whipping in off the North Sea. If he could ride anywhere in the world he'd not leave the UK - with just 2 years in the saddle to date he still has plenty of local roads to explore.

Steve Marston, 55 going on 14 and a sufferer of Obsessive Compulsive Cycling Disorder. Once rode 204 miles in a day just to get Fish & Chips in Hunstanton.

Steve Roper, 56. When the support crew forgot to bring water on a leg of his epic ride through Cambodia Steve ended up climbing 1,300 metres on willpower alone. He'd love to ride around Majorca, but only with appropriate refreshments.

Glynn Needs, 44. Veteran of the Wales Coast to Coast in 2019 and no stranger to hills, living and training as he does close to the Exmoor National Park in Devon. Longest ride to date 100 miles with around 7,000ft of Cotswold Hills thrown in.

Lee Edwards, 45. Has tackled such major events as L'etape Du Tour, The Marmotte and The Welsh Dragon but his greatest day on the bike was completing Ride London on a Tandem with his non-cyclist wife.

Richard Fleming, 41 and a master of adversity. From crashes in the peloton, sabotaged signage, foul weather and binding brakes. If it can go wrong then Richard has suffered from it but always refuses to stop peddling. His ideal ride would be around Sunny Majorca.

Martin Swadling, 50. Took on and conquered the Whitehaven to Whitby Coast to Coast Ride in 2017 and the Wales Coast to Coast in 2019 so a glutton for punishment for sure. Would love to ride through the Bordeaux Vinyards but freely admits that could end up being a very short ride.

Alan West, 44. Another veteran of the Wales Coat to Coast and a former racer to boot. Alan's most memorable ride was 130 miles across Des Ballon des Vosages in France including the 1,247 metre accent of the Ballon D'Alsace. His ideal ride would be in the Ardeche region. It's Alan's 45th birthday on the day we ride into Paris so the drinks are on him!

Andrew Thompson, 58. Andrew describes himself as the OAP of the group but with 5 previous Coast to Coasts under his belt nobody will be giving him a head start. Built to climb, he'd none the less prefer to join Martin in the Bordeaux Vinyards where he can fill his basket and bring some back for the rest of us!

John Foster, 60. Returned to cycling in 2016 after a 30 year break and has now covered 4500 miles including London to Paris in 2017. Would love to ride the Icelandic Ring Road, all 828 miles of it.

Mike Caddle, 42. Mike joined us in 2017 on the long route to Paris and would love to accompany his brother on a Lands End to John O'Groats expedition. Based in Cumbria, he's used to tackling some of the toughest hills in the country.
