Damion Vozniak-Sears, Nev Marshall and Maria Holland fundraising for Aurora Wellbeing

Raising money for Aurora Wellbeing

GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool 50 Mile Ultra · 3 April 2026 ·

We support people affected by cancer and long-term conditions, along with their loved ones. From our centres in Bassetlaw, Doncaster and Mexborough, we help ease symptoms, improve quality of life, and support people to explore complementary therapies, while raising awareness of wellbeing.

Story

On Good Friday, 3rd April 2026, 4 Wabtec employees, Damion Vozniak-Sears, Nev Marshall and Maria Holland, will challenge themselves to complete the Manchester to Liverpool 50 mile ultra marathon. This is the first ultra marathon for all of us and will certainly push us past our comfort zones.

We are all training hard to ensure that we cross that finish line and stagger away with our heads held high.

As part of our journey, we would like to support a charity that is local to us and have chosen an organisation that has a personal meaning.

Aurora Wellbeing Services is a local charity providing free, personalised support for people affected by cancer and long-term health conditions across Bassetlaw, Doncaster and Mexborough. Their centres offer a welcoming, community-focused space where individuals, families, and carers can access practical, emotional, and therapeutic help tailored to their needs. Included in these services are support groups, one-to-one emotional support and counselling, beauty therapies including 6 free treatments for cancer patients, and exercise, nutrition and wellbeing workshops.

Recently the Aurora Centre in Mexborough provided a close family member of Maria’s, Irene, with a kind, caring, and loving environment through out her cancer treatment. The massages and other therapies brought her comfort and moments of joy during an incredibly difficult time. Unfortunately Irene recently lost her battle to Cancer. Irene was an amazing lady who was able to make everyone around her feel loved and we would love to honour her in our challenge. We know she would have been cheering us on through all the training and on the big day.
