On Saturday 12th September, I’ll be taking part in the Overgate Hospice Midnight Walk, a magical 10-mile journey through Calderdale under the stars. This isn’t just a walk—it’s a chance to come together as a community, share stories and support an incredible local cause.

Last year I completed the walk with some friends and it was one of the most uplifting and inspiring evenings I’ve ever experienced. The atmosphere, the kindness of everyone taking part and the quiet moments of reflection stayed with me long after I crossed the finish line.

Since returning to the UK with my family, we’ve been welcomed back into our local community with such warmth and kindness. As a volunteer in the Complementary Therapies team at Overgate Hospice, I have also had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the compassion, dignity and support the hospice provides to local people and their loved ones. It has made me want to give something back to an organisation that means so much to so many.

This year, rather than walking alone, I’d love to build a team. Whether you’re walking in memory of someone special, to support a friend, or simply because you believe in the work Overgate does, I’d love you to join me. Together we can enjoy a special evening under the stars, share time with friends old and new, and experience the same inspiration and sense of community that I was so fortunate to feel last year.

The night promises glowing lights, laughter and quiet moments of reflection as hundreds of walkers move side by side, united by hope, kindness and a desire to give back. Every step we take helps support Overgate Hospice, ensuring local people and families receive care, comfort and compassion when they need it most.
