Story

In April 2023, our Joseph’s Goal walkers endured torrential rain on the Friday all day to walk the 35 miles from the DW Stadium to Bloomfield Road.

This year, we are reversing the route and coming back to the DW Stadium for the Blackpool home game....ideally with a better result and better weather!

We will be setting off by coach at first light from the DW Stadium on Friday, March 15, where we will be dropped at Bloomfield Road, home of Blackpool FC.

From there we will spend the day walking along the Fylde Coast, then on to Preston.

After a brief overnight stay, we will walk the remaining distance to the DW Stadium, to arrive in time to watch the mighty Wigan Athletic take on Blackpool once more on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Anyone who has taken part in these walks before will confirm they are challenging, tiring and painful.

However, they are also supportive, inspiring and life-affirming in many ways.Last year’s walk to Blackpool raised an astonishing £23,000.

And from the five walks that we have now done combined, the total sum raised is in excess of £137,000!!

Every penny we get goes towards raising critical funds for the Joseph’s Goal charity.

This charity funds research to find a cure for NKH (Non-Ketonic Hyperglycinaemia), a rare genetic condition that affects one in 60,000 new-borns.

A condition so serious that less than 500 children in the world are living with it.

Many don’t make it that far, but one who has is Joseph Kendrick, our little fighter and the mascot at the 2013 FA Cup final.

You might remember what happened that day!!

Joseph is 14 now, and will be undertaking parts of the walk himself, accompanied by his family and more than 50 or so others.

It will be two days of fun, challenge, camaraderie, probably a few blisters and the chance to give something back to a cause that gets relatively low support from mainstream sources.

Three points? Well, we’ll see!
