Raising money for SiMY

The Glasgow Kilt Walk · 30 April 2023 ·

We seek to travel with young people on their journey towards adulthood, providing them with friendship, support, opportunities and a positive nurturing atmosphere. We encourage them to take responsibility for their own wellbeing, the choices they make, and the community of which they are a part.

Story

We are a team of staff, volunteers, (unfortunately) ex staff, and friends who are involved with or want to support the work of SiMY Community Development.

SiMY work with young people and their families in and around the Townhead area of Glasgow. We focus on taking young people out into the countryside to help support their physical and mental wellbeing, alongside creative arts, and group work activities. We have also recently taken on the lease of two bowling greens in Townhead, which we aim to develop into a thriving, intergenerational community green space.

Funding the work we do is constant struggle that consumes a large amount of staff time that could, and should, be used for working with the young people. Current government policy and the consequential cost of living crisis has increased the competition for funding even further and we have already lost a staff member this year as a result. Unfortunately without the money we cannot realise the aims and aspirations of the young people and develop the community green space they so deserve! Anything you can contribute is therefore hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
