Walter welch type 1 diabetes fundraiser

Raising money for Breakthrough T1D

February Run Challenge · 1 February 2026 to 28 February 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Run, jog or walk 50km or 100km throughout February and help fund vital research towards a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Story

In May last year, Walter was rushed to the hospital in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), with blood sugar levels of 68 and high ketones of 9. After a week staying in hospital to get healthier and learning vital knowledge about diabetes’ and insulin administration we was allowed home.

Walter and his friends are now taking on the "Breakthrough T1D February Run Challenge," aiming to run 100km throughout the month of February 2026 to raise funds for type 1 diabetes research. This marathon is not just a personal challenge; it is a call to action for everyone who believes in making a difference.

Every £25 raised could provide an hour of essential support from a research nurse for someone participating in a clinical trial. This support is crucial; without it, groundbreaking trials may not happen. Furthermore, every £100 could enable one person to be screened for type 1 diabetes, helping to prevent undiagnosed complications and ultimately save lives.

We invite you to join us in this mission. Your generous contributions will help pave the way for innovative research that can lead to breakthroughs in diabetes care. Together, we can make a significant impact and bring hope to those affected by this condition.
