Story
This April, the Wong Lab at UCL is taking on a challenge: 30 minutes of exercise every day for 30 days, all in an effort to raise £2,000 for a local charity doing incredible, life-changing work — Women at the Well.
Based just around the corner from us in King’s Cross, Women at the Well is a vital grassroots organisation dedicated to supporting women who are affected by or at risk of sexual exploitation . Many of the women they serve face complex, intersecting challenges such as homelessness, poverty, addiction, and abuse. With a trauma-informed, women-only approach, the charity provides a safe and welcoming space, offering everything from hot meals and healthcare referrals to housing support, counselling, and long-term advocacy.
By supporting our fundraiser, you're helping sustain these crucial services and offering real pathways out of exploitation — opening the door to safety, healing, and a future free from violence for some of the most vulnerable women in London.
As a lab based at UCL, we’re proud to back a local charity so close to campus, and to use our collective energy to raise both funds and awareness for this important cause.
Throughout the month, we’ll be posting weekly updates on our Twitter (@TheWongLab) — sharing the creative ways each lab member is completing their 30 minutes, along with both personal reflections and research-based insights into how exercise supports physical and mental wellbeing.
The Wong Lab is a research group based at UCL, led by Dr. Keri Wong, and made up of students working on a range of projects related to mental health and well-being, with a particular focus on youth and young people. Through interdisciplinary research and community engagement, the lab aims to better understand and support the mental health needs of young people in today's complex social world.
Whether you donate, spread the word, or join us in a bit of movement, we’d love your support.
