Raising money for Kidasha and Thames Hospice

Story

WSPC moved to Runnymede 50 years ago and, as part of our celebrations to acknowledge how the Club has evolved over that time, we wanted to do something that is meaningful and special which involves all of our main disciplines (Skiffing, Dragon Boating and Outrigger Canoeing).

So, we've decided to paddle and row as one team (skiffs, dragon boat and a waka) for a full marathon distance. 10 locks, 27+ miles and a lot of blisters.

It's going to be very challenging so it's truly deserving of being a sponsored event. We have two focus charities:

**Thames Hospice** a superb local hospice

**Kidasha** a small charity in Nepal supporting children in urban slums

We hope you can donate and spur us and both our chosen charities on.

We have already received a great start to the event with a sponsorship from Oscar Propulsion (www.oscarpropulsion.com/sport) and Bam Nuttall (www.bamnuttall.co.uk) of £300 respectively.

Please read on for more fund-raising ideas...

In order to make it more interesting, we are suggesting a few options for a specific sponsorship, if you prefer. Assuming they are legally and morally responsible and safe for us to do on the water they can be proposed for an individual or for the team.

Suggestions include:

· Sponsor us per hour or mile.

· Sponsor someone to wear a costume or wig e.g. challenge someone to dye their hair Wraysbury colours (only if participant is willing!).

· Suggest we do something: e.g. sing a particular song, play a recorder, name our paddles/oars for the day, wear an inflatable armband whilst paddling, paddle/row backwards for 60 seconds, or perhaps have a land based competition for number of push ups in a minute, etc.

We will be posting on the club's social media with pictures of the day so make sure you get signed up and suggest something fun and an amount it would raise if we did it.

The event is subject to weather and safety so, if we are unable to paddle or row, an alternative challenge will be undertaken.

We look forward to your suggestions that will help spur us on to raise as much as we can for our chosen charities.

Thank you.
