Story
On Friday 9th June Year 8 pupils at The Perse will spend the day taking part in Power House Games - a bespoke sports day designed by the charity Power2inspire. Power2inspire was established by John Willis, who was born without fully formed arms and legs. His vision for the charity centres around a society where everyone has the opportunity to participate in sport, regardless of body type, age, disability, religion or ethnicity; in short, a world with “No one left on the bench”.
Pupils will have the opportunity to experience and take part in a range of inclusive sports and activities including sitting volleyball, new age kurling, goal ball, sitting netball, and boccia. Pupils are encouraged to test their beliefs about ability and disability and what it is to be different, to learn to respect other people’s differences, and challenge their assumptions of what they, and others, can and cannot do.
In the afternoon, pupils will take part in a sponsored ‘Inclusive Kilometre’ where they will complete a kilometre in an ‘inclusive way’ by wearing a blindfold and being guided by one of their peers. They will also take part in John Willis' '108 challenge'. John is planning to kayak 108 miles this summer and each year 8 form have chosen an action to do 108 times to raise money and show support for John.
Please sponsor Year 8 and help us raise money for Power2Inspire.
