Story

IMAGINE being DEAF AND BLIND!

Imagine how much support you would need to communicate, to function in society, to even meet your basic needs. DeafBlind not only supports basic needs, housing and personal support, but they also work hard to provide enriched lives with activities, communication and community integration.

We are walking, virtually in London May 23, to raise $5,347.16 to upgrade lighting in the London Lions Mercel home, where DeafBlind supports 5 individuals 24/7. This upgrade will improve accessibility and safety, particularly in stairwells, closets and transitional areas. An electrician is required. Being blind can still include ability to perceive light. We appreciate DeafBlind working to make this environment as safe and accessible as possible to residents and the staff that support them.

Trixies sister, Yvonne Elaine 'Sweetie-Pie' Kretschmer was a generous loving person with the most amazing infectious laugh. She had progressive deafness that became profound and her vision had increasing challenges as well. Despite these and other challenges, when she passed away in 2020 at only 43 years old, she was a happy person who spread a lot of joy.

Yvonne was very compassionate and she tried to help anyone in distress. She generously contributed time and effort to several charities and was a very active participant of our Alzheimer Walk team. We hope to follow her example with this new walk team for DeafBlind.

In Yvonnes memory we have been helping to support her peers through DeafBlind Foundation of Ontario. We are impressed with how they have been handling our donations and how dedicated they are to improving the lives of their clients. We hope you will join us to support this worthy cause. Any donation is very appreciated, at $20 a tax receipt will be available.

The main event is happening in Ottawa, but we will be walking in London, exploring Westminster Pond trails May 23. This cause is dear to our hearts, so sincere thank yous for any donation.

We welcome BRENDA LIN to our team! She is a hard working community minded individual. She is a student in the medical program at Western University. We met volunteering weekly at the London Food Coalition and found her to be strong, busy, helpful and dedicated. We are very proud and grateful to have Brendas participation and support.

Trix, Dave and Yvonne in spirit
