Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

We've decided to create a joint site for the three of us to collect sponsor money (Emily, Andy, Fraser) as we have many friends in common.  We have also included a few paragraphs below to explain why we are raising money for CRY.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cardiac Risk in the Young will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

On November 13, 2005, our very good friend Niall passed away at only 30 years of age. He had been in a coma for one week after collapsing during a Rugby match. Subsequently, Niall was diagnosed with having a rare and undetected heart condition known as Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome.

Proper screening could have prevented this and similar terrible tragedies; however, eight young people die in the UK alone every week from unidentified heart conditions.

And it's not just athletes who are at risk of these heart disorders - it can happen to anyone; teenagers, people in their twenties or thirties, amateur sports-people, professionals and guys just knocking a ball around on a pitch. It's indiscriminate and affects all sort of people. Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is an intensely practical charity. The goal of CRY is to work with cardiologists and family doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young by establishing good practice and screening facilities devoted to significantly reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death throughout the . It is incredible that with the technology available around 10,000 young people are still at risk of dying from some sort of heart disorder, which is not detected until it's too late. Prevention has to be better than cure.

Your donation really means a lot to us and to the Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Many thanks for your support.

Andy, Emily & Fraser
