Butterfly Conservation is the UK charity dedicated to saving butterflies and moths. Butterflies and moths are key indicators of the health of our environment. Butterfly Conservation improves landscapes for butterflies and moths, creating a better environment for us all.

Story

Ben and I love water, swimming and challenging ourselves.  Some of you have already sponsored us in the past (thanking you kindly) for our Team Otter Channel Relay Swim in 2011, and for other challenges too.  But this is something new.  One kilometer butterfly, without a wetsuit, in a Scottish Loch, guaranteed to be at least 10 degrees Celsius.  Hmmmm....

Long Distance Butterfly was recently described as the latest 'barely explored frontier' in extreme sport. However, together with our trusty swimming friends, the beauty of St Mary's Loch and the call of the butterfly, we will do it.

The rapid intensification of farming and forestry has led to widespread destruction of butterfly homes.  Delicate creatures, they are also sensitive indicators of environmental change and their decline is not good.  Furthermore, they are quite simply beautiful and worth our support for this alone.

Every pound you give helps them, and encourages Ben and me too.  Training is tough and we need all the crowd support we can get!  Please give generously!

Thanks :0)
