Some of you may remember that after my Dad, Jeff Pearce, was diagnosed with the lung disorder Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2016, he decided to do what he always does, and fight against it.
In September 2016, my brothers and I embarked on the 26.2 mile Robin Hood Nottingham FULL marathon, taking Dad with us in a wheelchair.
We completed the marathon in just over 6 long hours. Our support and reception was amazing and I thank everyone that donated towards the British Lung Foundation for us.
Fast forward a year and Dad once again gets the bug to enter another event.
This time, this 70 year old man with a lung disorder believes that he can run a half marathon without the aid of a wheelchair. We believe he can do better than that so we have entered him in to TWO HALF MARATHONS.
We are running the brand new BIG LONDON HALF MARATHON on Sunday 4th March, then running the GREAT NORTH RUN on Sunday 9th September 2018.
In the news recently was the tragic loss of childhood entertainer Keith Chegwin. Keith lost his life after a long battle against the same disease that Dad suffers from.
People are dying due to a disorder that we know little about, and although there have been some improvements in the available treatment, without research and funding it is not possible to move forward.
The British Lung Foundation are a little known charity organisation that strive to eradicate IPF and other such lung disorders and diseases, and they count on us to be able to continue.
I know and understand that now isn’t a good time to ask for donations, but when is it a good time for a family to receive the news that a loved one has been diagnosed with an illness that will ultimately end in a loss of life?
Dad, myself, David, John, Mark and Gareth are putting the effort in to running TWO HALF MARATHONS. All that we are asking for is a few pounds.
On behalf of us all, thank you!
