Fanconi Hope is a charity set up to sponsor research and support those affected by the rare genetic disorder Fanconi Anaemia that affects children and adults, leading to bone marrow failure and bone marrow transplantation, with very high risk of leukaemia and head and neck cancers.

Story

Hi Guys, I am looking for everyone to help out!

My Little Miracle was born on the 11th of January 2008. This should have been the happiest day of my life, but disaster struck as we soon realised after his horrendous arrival that our little baby boy was fighting for his life.

He was rushed away to intensive care and I was left with only a photo of my beautiful baby. We were told very quickly that Leighton had an endless list of health problems. We were in total shock. How could this happen ?

Leighton battled on throughout the odds and after several weeks we were given a diagnosis of Fanconi Anaemia. We did not have a clus what this was, but we knew from the diagnosis that it was life threatening especially due to all the other problems Leighton had going on. He was amazing and put up with so much, he was a medical mystery with a huge team of medics follwoing him and also fighting for his survival.

Yorkhill was his home and we soon became very close with all the staff, they were looking after my baby when I could not be there, and they were amazing.

We searched for information on the internet about F.A. but could only find information in American, until we stumbled on a small group of parents that had children with F.A. too they were trying to find information and raise awareness. We jumped on board and this was our lifeline. We were in contact with one of the families who were very helpful.

Unfortunately my little miracle decided enough was enough. We stayed with him overnight and cuddled him and showered him with love, we told him to let go and not to suffer anymore.

He fell asleep on the 26th of April 2008.

We then decided that it was time to take action we did not want this to happen to another family, we had to help. We decided that we had to begin fundraising to help parents of children with F.A .

Along with our amazing friends and family we have been doing this and have rasied an amazing amount of money. We are so grateful for the support and on going enthusiasm from our loved ones and that is why we are here again to ask for everyone to dig deep and help this worthy cause.

We need to keep the funds coming in to allow us to continue to fund the reaseach to take place to help try and find a cure for this awful illness.

So please, please dig deep. Think of my little brave boy and dontate what you can to help.

Thanks

Avril, Robert and Team Leighton
