Story
Welcome to my page!!
After doing the Great North Run for the last 2 years and loving it, I have signed up again for this year ;)
For me, the Great North Run is no ordinary half marathon. I was born with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), a childhood form of arthritis amd while it is now in remission, over the years it has damaged my joints. I am known as 'bionic woman' having had both hips and knees replaced.
To make it possible for me to take part in something I love, I will joined by Chris Deighton, President of the British Society of Rheumatology, who is once again pushing me around the 13.1 miles course in my wheelchair and supporting me when I have a leg stretch. Together we will make 'Team NRAS'
Of course, it wouldn't be Team NRAS without fancy dress and this year's theme is pubs with my wheelchair being a 'travelling bar', Chris as the landlord and me as a busty barmaid!
The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) inform, educate and support individuals with Juvenile and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). These are chronic and progressive conditions where the body's immune system attacks itself, causing swollen and painful joints..... There is unfortunately no cure and it can affect any age.
Your support will enable other people with RA and JIA to get much needed support and treatment.
