Miles for Miles

Team photo

Our beautiful baby Miles was sadly born sleeping at 39+5 weeks on 6th December 2018. This devastating news came as a massive shock to us having had a healthy low-risk pregnancy and a normal scan just 2 weeks earlier. We had never considered such a tragedy could occur at this late stage in pregnancy without any apparent reason. The UK unfortunately has one of the highest rates of Stillbirth in Europe; the reasons for this are unclear.

We are so grateful to those who have already donated offline and we have put the money towards a new 'Cold cot' and renovation of the Butterfly rooms at Chelsea and Westminster hospital where we were looked after during the precious time we spent with Miles. We have also given a sum to the 'Remember my Baby' charity who do amazing voluntary work taking professional photos of sleeping babies, which can be cherished forever. There were a number of other charities involved in the provision of Miles' care. We are hoping to raise some further donations to be put towards Tommy's, Sands and Kicks Count who are involved in research and prevention of Stillbirth and neonatal death as well as supporting the families of those affected.  For further details please see the individual fundraising pages below.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Your support means so much to us and Miles. If we can increase awareness and raise enough to support the ongoing research then our contributions may help to prevent other families from experiencing this devastating outcome.

If you would like to get involved in a fundraising walk or run or join us on one of ours then please get in touch.

Our plan is to complete the Thames path walk which is 180 miles from the Thames barrier to source. We expected to do this in stages over 7-8 days.

Our first event was on Thursday 17th January where we walked 33 miles from the Thames barrier to Richmond.

We completed our second walk on Saturday 16th February following the river for 29 miles between Richmond and Windsor and this time we were joined by few good friends and their dog + baby.

On Sunday 24th March we completed a third walk along the scenic Thames path between Windosr and Henley (22 miles) and were rewarded with a delicious pub lunch at The Little Angel afterwards.

If you would like to follow our journey and see pictures from the walks then please see the pinned post on Lucy's instagram page (@lucy.sowden).

We are so grateful to Becky and Richie who have joined our team and raised some vital funds for the Sands charity by completing a challenging Jurassic coast walk.

More recently, Martin has raised some further funds for Tommy's by taking part in Ride London, where he cycled 100 miles around London and Surrey. Please take a look at our Tommy's page below for details and photos. It was an honour to have Greg on board who also took part in the race and has raised over £3000 for Tommy's.

The next challenge we have planned is a 100km walk over the South Downs which we will aim to complete in less than 30 hours. This will be taking place on 21st September 2019.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

All our love,

Martin, Lucy and Miles
