An amazing team of young friends (ranging in age from 4 to 7) have decided they'd like to join forces and raise money for SSNAP, the charity which supports the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. You'll see their team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help them to smash their goal!
Although you wouldn't believe it if you saw her now, In 2013 their friend Ava was born extremely prematurely at just 25 weeks gestation weighing 850g. She spent the first 6 months battling for her life between the John Radcliffe and the Royal Berkshire Hospitals, only leaving either unit by ambulance transfer. It's thanks to their incredible care that she is thriving now. After completing a short 1km run recently, Ava decided she'd like to try and raise money for the hospital in 'Oxbord' as she calls it, to help other babies like her. Her and her friends will be running/walking (and potentially being carried around by parents) at various events over the coming months to raise as much money as possible to give back to the unit. They'll be kicking off with the Witney 5km Rainbow Run in May.
As a level 3 unit, the John Radcliffe hospital is responsible for saving the lives of thousands of babies from across the country each year. Alongside providing state of the art, life saving equipment, they also help families stay together by providing financial support if needed, they fund research to ensure better outcomes for sick and premature babies and provide a family support service so you know that every penny donated will be going towards a great cause.
