Danny and Steve do the London Marathon

Team photo

Hi everyone, thanks for visiting our page. If you’ve already clicked on this page it must mean you’ve decided to sponsor us, so thank you! Here is a little bit about us and why we’ve decided to run the Marathon, and more importantly, why we’re running for Run For It.

Welcome to our page of pain. Whilst the rest of the sensible adult population prepare to eat drink and be merry on a balmy summer Saturday evening, we shall be stretching out our shin splints (Danny) and cracking herniated disks (Steve).

Run For It- our chosen charity- is a partnership between YouthNet and Age UK. They aim to bring the younger and older generations together to end loneliness and improve life quality for both ends of the generation spectrum. www.runforit.org.uk/

And so, one Southern softy with three herniated disks and a fondness for whiskey and one northerner with shin splints and a penchant for Dominos decided to strap on their trainers and hit the streets, sometimes literally.

Steve- The broken one

Steven, having agreed to this, got all excited and started training in November (to Danny’s sedate horror). Which all worked well until his doctor informed him he would be going under the knife for his sinuses (polypectomy). They even made him quit smoking.

Following 6 weeks under strict instructions to not even walk enthusiastically, he returned to training in the wind and snow of early January. By mid January his enthusiasm for the tarmac had landed him back on the chiropractors bench and a further six weeks of being advised even being sit enthusiastically.

“I’m really regretting this whole marathon idea with you to be honest.” – 11.02.2013

Danny- The northern one.

Danny, the one to blame for coming home with this idea in the first place, has sacrificed a beautiful and meaningful relationship for this. Since November, Dominos have been puzzled and hurt by the sudden desertion of one of their favourite customers. He has even been seen cooking vegetables.

His training has brought him back childhood memories, specifically, that of the shin splints he suffered as a football playing youth.

Danny even, magnanimously, resisted from going for runs in December whilst Steven was incapacitated (nothing to do with the cold, or laziness). Has gradually overtaken Steven and the predictions of who will fall down first are evenly split.

“I need to go to the gym. Tomorrow.”- 11.02.2013
