On August 15th last year my 18 year old brother set off to complete the Cotswold sportive, and just after 10am he was involved in a freak accident that has changed all our lives forever.
The reason we are riding today is that the Great Western Air Ambulance saved his life, there were many people that could take credit for that on that fateful Saturday morning, the doctors on the ride that gave him immediate attention, the fellow cyclists that physically lifted the vehicle off him and the unbelievable doctors that performed hours of surgery to stop the internal bleeding. Ultimately though without the Air Ambulance this would be a very different ride, it would easier to list which bones he didn't break, and unfortunately there was a severe head injury, we were told he wouldn't wake from his coma. Alas he did, 4 weeks on and since then we've watched mainly in awe his recovery, his head and general injuries are life changing, but as a family we can't thank the Great Western AA enough for saving him.
So this ride is for them, it costs £1500 to £2000 every time they attend an accident and they run solely on donations and fundraising, it's a charity that nobody realises they need until they need them, and boy did we!
We hope to see his friends, family, people from that day and as many folk on the ride as possible just to show our support to the charity that we will forever be indebted to.
