Last year, our dear friend David sadly passed away; taken much too young and leaving a hole in all our lives that we will struggle ever to fill.
On Saturday 13th August 2011, 11 of David's friends and family will be walking 42 miles of the White Horse Trail which showcases the beauty and serenity of Wiltshire, of which David was so proud, finishing in Edington at David's family home. We have deliberately set ourselves the challenging target of completing this in one day because, quite simply, anything less would not have been acceptable to the big man himself.
The inaugural David's Wiltshire Walk will also raise much needed funds for Afghanaid in his memory, because David spent 18 months in Afghanistan and it was a place he cared deeply about. Afghanaid is an international humanitarian and development non-governmental organisation (NGO) which has worked alongside Afghan communities for nearly three decades. They currently work directly with over 1 million adults and children focusing on long term sustainable development in some of Afghanistan's poorest rural areas. After much deliberation and consideration of a range of charities, David's brother Chris decided on Afghanaid because of its vision (which David shared) of a peaceful and secure Afghanistan, where Afghans exercise their rights to political freedom and economic opportunity in a country where institutions are held accountable.
So, dig deep, and help us support this worthy cause in honour of David and his memory. If you are a UK taxpayer, please also Gift Aid (an additional 28%) your donation to help us raise even more. Every pound raised will help spur us on and keep those legs moving over Wiltshire's hills to reach our target.
Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Afghanaid.
