Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be running my first ever marathon in April 2016, and where better than London! Merely an amateur runner, I will be taking part in this legendary event, along with Sam Potter & Matthew Ironside too;
1, To raise money and awareness for the PSP association. (progressive super nuclear palsy)
2, Prove to myself I can actually do it!
Sadly, my stepfather Brian died of this horrible disease in August 2015, after a painful 8 years of suffering. My challenge would be to raise as much as I can to pledge to the charity to support with further research and much needed assistance for sufferers. Seeing the decline of someone with this illness was really hard and although a rare disease, my hope is all the funds raised will support and really aid others with the illness...and of course heighten the awareness of PSP along the way.
I will fully submerge myself into the full training regime to complete the marathon in a reasonable time! ( under 4.5 hrs) I've completed lots of runs before and normally do these with little training, so getting my head round the fact I'm actually doing this and it's a distance thats huge, I need to completely respect it and give this epic race the kudos it deserves...I don't want to still be going on the Monday when everyone else has finished and gone home! I'm running for the PSP association, which is an amazing charity. Brian died of this disease in August, after so much suffering, so I'm basically doing it for him and know he would be so proud of my efforts, dedication and commitment to achieve. I'm 40 in December and want to start the first year of my 4th decade with the ultimate pride of knowing I am doing this. I love completing challenges and telling people what I'm up to, and would love to use my training journey /saga as an inspirational tale - of a bloke who likes to say it like it is and who also gets very goosebumpy just at the thought of eventually reaching Buckingham palace and turning right...for a very emotional finish. Having entered the marathon a number of times before, I was getting miffed with the collection of complimentary T-shirts and windjammers I kept getting as commiserations and 'sorry not this time' for not getting a place,.....but not this time....... I'm In, I'm gonna bloody do it, I'm gonna tell everyone and anyone about it, do some hardcore training and even harder fundraising and do myself and Brian proud!! .........Can't wait :)
Thanks so much again, Justin Xxxx
