Kyra is 7 years old and loves playing energetically with her friends. If her rare birth defect is left untreated, she will have her leg amputated above the knee. We are fundraising towards the £95,000 goal for her life-changing surgery by taking on a unique climbing challenge.
What we are climbing:
Olympus Mons, a volcano on Mars, is the highest mountain in the solar system with an approximate height of 22,000 metres. A core group will climb the equivalent height (2,200 ascents) throughout the day at the climbing wall in High Sports Brighton to fundraise for 'Step With Kyra'.
How high is it:
Depending where you measure from, the summit is listed as somewhere between 21,000m and 26,000m, but the best image we found mentions 22,000m which is a valid measurement from "the local relief".
How many ascents:
The routes at High Sports Brighton vary between about 8m and 13m. For simplicity, we've said that an average ascent is 10m, therefore it's 2,200 ascents.
Support:
Please support us by pledging. Alternatively (or additionally) come join in and climb a few hundred metres! No equipment, experience or space suit is necessary. Contact us for more details.
