Mongol Rally
The first Mongol Rally took place in 2004, in which 6 teams started and 4 completed the course. It was started by the Adventurists who were trying to make the world less boring while helping people in the process.
The Challenge
There are no rules, no set route, no assistance on the road. Teams must drive ridiculously ill-suited 1 litre cars across several countries covering over 15, 000 kilometres in order to donate their car, their time and the money they raised.
Over 500 cars depart London, Spain, Italy simultaneously and race to Mongolia to donate their cars and an additional £1000 for charities – £500 of which must go to the designated Mongol Rally charity for 2011: The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation. Our second charity is a cause very dear to our team members' hearts: the Japanese Red Cross, working to aid the victims of the March 11 Tohoku Earthquake.
It’s an adventure and there is no way to make the journey without encountering problems. As the founding father of the Mongol Rally said, “If you haven’t run into massive difficulties on the way then you are doing something wrong!”
Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 28%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charity, faster, with JustGiving.
So please dig deep and donate now.
