Story

Ann & myself have never cycled further than the village pub which is one whole mile down the road so biking from London to Paris on 4th-7th September 2015 - a total of 234 miles over 3 days - is nothing short of terrifying. It's a huge challenge and one we are in training for now.

We've chosen to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and to show our commitment to them 80% of our fund raising target needs to be given to them before the end of June 2015. So, as well as our training, our drive to hit our target of £4,000.00 begins NOW!

Why Macmillan?

A good friend and work colleague Dave Jost, who has been a part of our family business for almost 30 years, found out his wife, Jenny, had cancer in November.

Please read Jenny's story:

Hearing the news that I had Stage IV Cancer was the most devastating and frightening news for all of us! Me, my husband, our teenage children, our friends and our family!  Even at 48, being the youngest of 7 children, I am still regarded as “The Baby!” That news was to change all of our lives!

My job as a primary school teacher, which I loved, ended straight away. The cancer had spread to my lungs and my liver, and after struggling with a sore back for about four weeks, I discovered that it had also extensively spread to my spine, pelvis and hips.

Without the Macmillan nurses, I would not have known what to do next. They were able to give me financial help and support with policies and insurance claims and make sure that I was getting everything possible.

As my ability to walk had become much more difficult, they arranged for me to have a disabled parking badge and a carers allowance was also arranged. There has always been someone there to talk to, to answer those awkward questions and discuss those things that I didn’t understand or needed clarifying.

These nurses are very special people and the more of them there are, the more help and support there will be for everybody who is living with cancer!

I remember my nurse asking me and my husband that really important question, “Are you sure you understand what we are saying to you?” Clarifying everything for you and guiding you through your illness and your treatment!

Please help, please give to Macmillan Nurses and Cancer Support!  Jenny Jost

Thank you for taking the time to visit our page and read Jenny's words. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated by myself, Ann, the Jost family and, of course, Macmillan.
