Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Last year we raised over £4000 - thank you so much for your help and generosity.

This year I am getting back on my bike to cycle around Stratford-upon-Avon with Parkinson's UK. The Pedal for Parkinson's event is a 44 mile [I'm not fit enough for the 60 mile version yet!] around the hills and countryside of Warwickshire. Your donations would help me stay motivated and raise much needed funds for Parkinson's UK.

To find out more about Parkinson's cycling events visit https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/pedal

Here's what the money you raise for Parkinson's UK can do:

  • £25 will enable Parkinson's UK to run an education session in a hospital ward
  • £75 will enable a half-day Parkinson's nurse-led clinic in the community
  • £150 is enough to fund Parkinson's nurse for a day
  • £1,000 could fund a cutting edge research project for a week

Frank's Story

About 12 years ago my father, Frank, was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

He had not long retired from over 40 years driving a cab in Southend and we had recently celebrated his 60th birthday. It was a special birthday so mum decided they would like to spend time in their retirement with a dog. She spent time researching and to his surprise bought him a black labrador as a birthday gift.

To start with they noticed things were not right when they were out walking the dog and mum kept having telling him off for walking with his arms curled up to his chest. Other signs made them visit the doctors and after extensive tests the devastating news that he had Parkinson's was confirmed.

My sister, Sue, and I along with our families have watched as
this terrible disease has slowly taken away both his and my mum's
(who is now is main carer) quality of life. We now feel that we must do
something to help others suffering with Parkinson's

Having never run a marathon or really muddy cross country run, having never had the urge to jump out of a plane or dangle on the end of a bungee rope, I've never really done anything BIG for charity before. So, I got to thinking “what could I do...?”

A 24 HOUR TENNIS MATCH...

...obviously!

Thank you for reading this brief history of our Parkinson's story. It does not begin to tell the whole story about how this PD affects lives across the world in so many different ways.

Here's what the money you raise for Parkinson's UK can do:
