Please sponsor us to FIGHT BLINDNESS.
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is the name given to a group of eye disorders that affect a layer of the retina, the light sensitive lining at the back of the eye. The millions of special cells that make up the retina slowly deteriorate. The eye loses its ability to transmit pictures to the brain.
Between 9th and 14th May 2013, John McKinney and David MacMillan along with cox Sara Stark, intend to row 166 miles from the source of the Thames at Lechlade to The Thames Barrier through 45 Locks, over about 6 days, depending on conditions.
Average age of the two scullers is 71 plus. Like many thousands of others in The UK , and probably millions around the world, David suffers from RP along with two others in his family.
With your support, our aim in Thames Row 2013 is to raise a substantial sum of money to maintain the pace of research into RP so that a cure for this distressing eye complaint can be found, and so help future generations worldwide.
Donations can be sent to our Just Giving website www.justgiving.com/thamesrow2013. If you prefer, please donate by cheque. Please make your cheque payable to RP Fighting Blindness (BRPS) and address to c/o White House Products Ltd, Kelburn Business Park, Port Glasgow, PA14 6TD Scotland. In order that Gift Aid can be claimed, please write your name and address on the back of the cheque and state that you are a UK taxpayer.
Pictures will be posted on Facebook, showing different aspects of the expedition and the landmarks we pass.
Training is in full swing for David, John and Sara, the cox. We will keep you up to speed with events as they unfurl both here and on Facebook. Link to be published soon.
All expenses relating to this challenge and the appeal, are covered outwith any donations.
