The Bodleian to British Library Walk · 13 June 2015
The Mishcon Trainees are walking 110 miles over 38 hours, from the Bodleian to the British Library along Shakespeare's Way, in aid of Beanstalk.
Life is pretty limited when you are unable to read. England came 22nd out of 24 in literacy amongst developed countries in a recent OECD skills survey, and a staggering 1 in 8 children leave primary school each year unable to read to the required standard, often leading to a lack of opportunity and sometimes functional illiteracy.
Beanstalk aims to change that fact. It is a charity that trains volunteer readers to provide one-to-one tuition for children who have fallen behind in their reading. This tuition makes an enormous difference to a child’s life, improving their reading levels, increasing their confidence and inspiring a lifelong love of reading.
To support this fantastic cause, the trainees of Mishcon de Reya are planning to walk from one great repository of knowledge to another – from the Bodleian Library in Oxford to the British Library in London, along the famous Shakespeare’s Way footpath. We aim to cover this distance, totalling 110 miles, in just 38 hours, over the course of 12-14 June.
