Story
Hey Everyone,
Please sponsor us to run 10k 'cos we're raising money for CR-UK!! Sorry that's the best we could do, we won't give up the day job! ;)
A few of us in the Pathology Department of Cardiff University have decided to get together, put on our running shoes and raise some money for Cancer Research! We have called ourselves 'The Pipettes' because we work in cancer biology and spend most of our time in the lab. Although we all work on different projects we all have the common goal of beating cancer. Cancer research is constantly moving forward and although giant leaps in understanding have been made, there is still a long way to go. Your money allows us to continue our research, by having the most up to date technologies and equipment at our fingertips and hopefully brings us one step closer to understanding cancer and discovering potential therapies.
Let us introduce ourselves:
Duncan Baird (The Boss): is a CRUK senior fellowship holder, leading a team of scientists investigating the involvement of telomeres in the generation of chromosomal mutations that can drive the progression of cancer. Our work is likely to impact on a broad range of cancer types; currently we are focusing on colorectal, breast and oesophageal cancer.
Rebecca Capper is a research technician currently working on Wnt signaling, a pathway involved in many cancer types. Her main focus to date has been on breast and ovarian cancer.
Hannah Tivey, is a PhD Student working on premature ageing syndromes that show a predisposition to many different types of cancer. Her primary focus is to investigate the role of stress signaling pathways in these syndromes.
Julia Grimstead, is a research technician who has worked on a range of cancer-related projects.
Azeem Arshad, is a PhD student and general dogsbody, who is working on finding new therapies for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer.
So please sponsor us. Whatever you can give makes a difference!!!!
Thank you
Duncan, Hannah, Rebecca, Julia and Azeem.
