Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Amitie Project was created by 2 mums (Amina Odukoya and Mercy Haruna) who are passionate about motherhood and promoting physical and mental wellness.

The project raises awareness about related issues (e.g perinatal depression) through campaigns and fundraising events. These events help support charities who are on the front line of maternal care.

Our charity for this year is - Freedom From Fistula Foundation.

An estimated 2 million women and girls in Africa are suffering from obstetric fistula caused by prolonged, obstructed childbirth and lack of access to maternity care. Left incontinent, they are often condemned to a life of solitude and despair.

The Freedom From Fistula Foundation helps women and girls by providing free surgeries to heal their fistulas and free maternity care to prevent fistulas and ensure safe childbirth.

By joining us to raise money for Freedom For Fistula, you are helping make the lives of these women better.

The funds raised will be matched £ for £ by Barclays.

How your money helps
Helping raise vital funds really does make a difference to the lives of women and girls in Africa and every little helps...

£2 can feed a woman in care three square meals daily

£10 can pay for a new outfit for a former patient for celebratory leaving ceremony

£50 can pay for a fistula patient’s education during their stay at our facilities. Many of these women and girls have no literacy or numeracy skills so this invaluable training can empower and change lives, and help the patients to create their own future

£100 can pay towards a safe delivery for mother and baby

£200 can purchase an income generating solar station. This alone can help to empower patients and provide them with an income to support themselves and their families upon their return to their communities

£1,000 can pay for life changing fistula care. Many of the patients stay for extended periods of time (up to 8 or 9 months in some cases) and this amount pays for their surgery, as well as their rehabilitation, and helps to reintegrate them back into their communities

About the charity

Freedom From Fistula helps women and children in Africa by providing; free surgeries for women and girls suffering from obstetric fistula caused by obstructed childbirth; free and accessible maternity care; children's outpatient clinics and training for nurses and doctors.
