Story
GS veterans Network EMEA is taking part in The Big Sleep at the Tower of London to raise support for the incredible and important work Alabaré does with veterans across the UK.
Alabaré has provided housing to vulnerable Veterans for 26 years, offering over 100 bedspaces across 21 homes to Veterans affected by homelessness, poverty, debt, addiction, trauma, poor mental and physical health. Alabaré strives to ensure access to support, training, and employment, to enable Veterans to live fulfilling lives outside of the military.
In 2020/21, Alabaré supported over 280 Veterans; 29% were wounded, injured or sick resulting from military service, and 41% recognised their mental ill-health was an issue. Although, as pride prevents Veterans recognising their issues, the actual statistics are likely higher.
The Big Sleep at the Tower of London is Alabaré’s most ambitious event, where 500 people will sleep rough in front of Traitor’s Gate. It will be a humbling and powerful experience for the GS team but keeping us warm will be compassion and camaraderie.
Fundraising saves lives, and our goal is to raise £10,000 towards Alabaré’s £250,000 target. From the money raised, Alabaré will donate towards a Tower Hamlets homeless night shelter supporting the most vulnerable in your community.
