Adventures of an Anxious Mind

Adventures of an Anxious Mind · 26 August 2018
Hi, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
'Adventures of an Anxious Mind' is where I set myself running challenges to help raise awareness of Mental Illness, raise money for Mind, and challenge my own mental health barriers.
Exercise and getting out in nature has been vital in helping me to manage my mental health; my aim is to encourage and inspire people of all ages and abilities to exercise in a way that they are comfortable with, and most importantly can have fun doing.
In 2016 I suffered a work-related mental health crisis. Anxiety, panic, and depression took over my whole life. After months of struggling to cope, and hitting rock bottom, I called Mind.
Support from Mind helped me make moves toward better mental health. Speaking to someone on Mind’s Infoline helped me understand what I was experiencing, and why I might be experiencing it. They listened. It meant a lot that there was somebody there.
The team on their Legal Line even helped clarify some things for me when I took on my former employers to court. Knowing Mind was there has been really important in moving my life forward.
While I still struggle with Anxiety and depression daily, Mind has always been there to help support me, giving me the chance to share my lived experience by being part of their campaigns, workshops, and media opportunities.
You might never meet the person you’ll help – but it could be life-changing for them, as it was for me.
Your donation could mean that when someone reaches out for help, Mind is there. It could help put people in touch with the support they need. That could be Mind’s online information, their Side by Side service, or even local Mind groups.
Mental health is still not taken as seriously as it should be. The systems that are there to help and protect people are broken; your donation will help Mind to keep fighting to:
Reduce waiting times for treatment (people are waiting over 6 months, and in some cases longer).
Improve standards in Mental health hospitals (Mental health hospitals are broken. Buildings are crumbling. Wards are often bare, cold, and rundown. And people’s voices are being ignored. It’s time to make mental health hospitals safe).
Reform the Mental Health Act (this is over 40 years old, and states someone can be detained/sectioned, and given mental health treatment against their will. Someone can be detained for their own safety or to protect others. Despite recommendations being made for changes in 2018, and a draft Mental Health Bill being published in 2022, the government has failed to take action).
Provide quicker help and support for young people when they need it (1 in 5 young people have a mental health problem. And often, they can’t get support when they first need it. The earlier a young person gets support for their mental health, the more effective that support will be.)
My fundraising is ongoing, your continued support is greatly welcome, so please keep donating, if you can.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
