Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Fiona’s JustGiving page. Set up by my Sister-in-Law Gillian .
“I’m doing really well, it’s only 12 weeks since I underwent major surgery. It took 10 hours in the operating theatre for the surgical team to remove a tumour from my appendix, it had spread so far throughout my abdomen that I required the removal of multiple other organs. It is called Pseudomyxoma peritonei, it’s very rare and the diagnosis came as a big shock to my family and myself.”
Doing well means I returned home after five weeks in hospital, I’m back sleeping in my own bed. After lots of nausea and sickness I can now eat well and last week I started to drive short distances. Getting back to my business will take longer, I’m a sheep farmer and it’s a very active role that requires full body strength.
My Macmillan nurse, Carol Ryan, has already been a great support to us. Carol sat with my husband and I after the shock of the diagnosis and visited regularly in hospital, always reassuring me and sharing advice on how to cope. I’m keen to build up my fitness so Carol suggested the Move Forward exercise DVD produced by Macmillan and I manage to do a bit more each day. I’ve got a long recovery ahead of me but I know I’ll make good progress because of the support of my family and friends and Macmillan.
