Story

The Ride For Alfie............

The ride for Alfie is going to be a charity bike ride for "The Childrens Heart Surgery Fund", for which my nephew Alfie was cared for and treated by the fantastic nurses and doctors.  He was diagnosed with De George Syndrome.  A complication of this syndrome is major heart problems, for which Alfie had 2 massive open heart operations at just 6 weeks old.

So why are we doing this bike ride..........

I left my previous job on 27th November 2008, and decidied to go on a crash diet and fitness program.  I took a step back and looked at myself,  I was terribly over weight, no stamina and would my son Joshua want to see his daddy poorly, because thats were I was heading.  Alot of friends and family thought "yeah just another diet, it wont last" but I was focused and really wanted to do this for myself.  Currently I have lost 6st 2pds and would like to loose another 2 stone if I can.  I am now back into my mountain biking which i did when I was 18 and hence why we are doing a bike ride.

Why did you want to do do the bike ride.......

We want to do this bike ride to give something back to the unit in Leeds were Alfie was cared for.  The pain our family and especially my brother Michael was emense.  I have never seen my brother so upset, and having to watch him go through the pain and not being able to do anything, I felt helpless.  I remeber Michael ringing me at work one afternoon just before Alfies operation, he was in tears saying "Dave he may not come out of the operation" he was sobbing and then it started me off.  I felt really helpless not being able to do anything, our family and friends all went through it and it was a terrible experience and would not wish it on anybody.  So having not being able to do anything at the time, I now feel myself and my wife Lynsey want to give something back and raise as much money as we can for this great charity.  We are leaving Gretna Green on Monday 10th may 2011 and finishing at the Aston Arms Market Rasen on the 16th May 2010 a total of 227 miles in 6 days.

What happens when the bike ride finishes.......

We are hopefully having a bit of a bash at the Aston Arms were we are hoping to have a raffle and charity auction, so any contribution to this would be greatly recieved.  The local paper, radio station and all being well local TV will be there, which is still to be confirmed.  You are all more than welcome to join us and finish off the week in great style, lets celebrate "The Ride For Alfie"

Thanks...............
