On October 25th 2009 we are taking part in the Great South Run, a 10-mile race around Portsmouth. Yes, we are a bit nervous, but training has already begun and we are confident we can complete the race in a good time.

Rather than simply use this epic challenge as a way to get fit, take in the rich naval history associated with Portsmouth and inflict permanent damage to our knees, we have decided to use this opportunity to raise cash for a great cause - the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease. It affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.

Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis.

It's a really nasty illness and I would not wish it on my enemies.

CF Trust is not one of the "magic circle" or "Ivy League" charities, and often gets overlooked by fundraisers for the bigger names in the charity arena. Yet, CF Trust provides essential support to those affected by Cystic Fibrosis, which is why we want to help.

We hate asking for cash, but this is an excellent cause, and let's not forget that 10-miles is a long way to run. All donations are much appreciated. Thank you.
