Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Woking Hospice cared for our aunty Sue in the final months of her life. Not only did they offer wonderful comfort to our aunty, but also the nurses, and others, were a great support to family who stayed there with aunty Sue in the final weeks. They do a fantastic job in what are almost always difficult circumstances, but rely fully on money given through charity and they really  need the funds. On Friday 27th March myself and my brother Andy are cycling from Westbuury, Wiltshire to the hospice at Woking in Surrey and back the following day, a round trip of approx 165 miles.Your sponsorship will be greatly appreciated by us and the hospice who desperately need the money - please dig deep!

 How it all went!

We set off on friday morning at around 9.30 in a slight drizzle. Luckily it cleared and we rode across Salisbury Plain in nice sunshine, very pleasant! The further into the 80 odd miles we ventured the higher and longer each hill seemed to get, and after about 55 miles the pleasantness had definitley worn off and it had become a real labour of love! We eventually arrived at the hospice at around 6.50 pm to a great reception from friends and family, thankyou to everybody that took time out on a cold night to cheer us in, much appreciated!

We set off early the next morning from the hospice on the return journey, everything much the same as the day before. All was going quite well, but my (Tom) left Knee had become very painfull. Going across the plain my dad (who was driving the support vehicle - his decorating van actually!) decided that it was time to call it a halt, packed the bikes and me and Andy in the van and took me to the casualty dept. at Trowbridge hospital. We are really sorry to all of you that we did not complete the whole task, it was a big disappointment to us, but the hospital confirmed that I had pulled ligaments in my knee and was wise to stop. I have to rest the knee as it will take about six weeks to heal - no bike riding for six weeks, what a disappointment! Andy is fine by the way!

Despite this we feel proud of what we did, and know that Aunty Sue is too. Thanks to everyone that supported us and helped us raise far more than we expected.

Tom and Andy.
