Story

Thanks for having taken the time to click onto Ross, Steve and Will's JustGiving site.

Before we tell you what madness we're planning for this summer (the photo section above might give the game away slightly on that front...), we thought we'd let you know that we're doing it for a charity that's very close to our hearts: the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

**A firm date has now been set for the climb ! Depending on weather, we shall be 'ThreePeaking' on the 14th / 15th of September. **

Last year we all lived together in Bristol's infamous 'flat 201, Waverley House', along with some amazing people who have since become very good friends of ours. One particular flatmate, Sammy, is Will's girlfriend (she's been putting up with him for 4 years now!) - and she suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. If you'd just met her then she'd seem like any other fun loving, smiley, happy student - you would never know that she wasn't very well. But, after living with her, we had an insight into the severity of her coughing, breathing difficulties, extreme tiredness and reliance on medication that would have otherwise been all to easy not to notice. Its difficult to see a friend or loved one having to cope with this every day, and even more difficult to realize that we can't do anything to miraculously make her 'better' - so we decided to do something about it by raising money for the people who can, the CF Trust - a charity that really can make a positive difference to the lives of CF sufferers.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only national charity in the UK that deals with all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF), one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. It funds medical and scientific research to develop a cure and provide effective treatments for CF and aims to ensure that appropriate support and clinical care are available for people with Cystic Fibrosis. By sponsoring us in our challenge, you'll be supporting not only the people close to us, but doing something that will benefit every other CF sufferer in the UK

So, now you know that we're doing some kind of "challenge", we may as well tell you what it is: The Three Peaks Challenge.

This year, like last year, we four awful excuses for mountain climbers are donning the crampons, fastening the rope and packing the ice picks as we head for the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales and aim once more to conquer them in under 24 hours. OK, forget the glamor of the picks, rope and crampons - that was just to grab your attention. What we're actually undertaking is something far more mentally draining, physically tiring, dirtier, muddier, bloodier, sweatier, leg-muscle-burnier and red-bull-consumier.

We're planning to climb the 1344m of Ben Nevis (Scotland), the 978m of Scafell Pike (England) and the 1085m of Snowdon (Wales) in less than 24 hours, with no support driver, no sleep, no leisurely pauses for photos, no mercy and this time no excuses.

Last year we set the same challenge for ourselves, and would have completed it within the allotted time if it wasn't for the impenetrable weather conditions on Snowdon. After the weather cleared, we made it to the summit and back - but the mountain delayed us by 6 and a 1/2 hours, so we finished in an overall time of 29 hours. Gutted. This year, though, we're back, we know what we're doing, and we've got a serious bone to pick with the highest mountain in Wales. We are going to complete the challenge in under 24 hours, and this time - for a personal bonus - we plan not to trundle the 500 odd miles back to Cornwall on the back of an AA truck.

Last year, our initial fund-raising target was £500 but, thanks to everyone's overwhelming support, we increased it to £1000 and still managed to raise £1170 in total.

This year, we have decided upon a more ambitious fund-raising target of £1500 to match our (equally) ambitious dreams of good weather on the mountains and a car that won't die on us when on said mountains.

Last year you were all fantastically generous with your donations, and we hope that you can be equally amazing for CF this year. Anything at all you can spare - no matter how small - will help in the fight against CF, so please, dig deep (as we will do when up the mountains) and donate!

Thanks again for taking an interest in our 'threepeaks4cf' challenge! Please tell friends, family, colleagues, random people on the street (why not?) about us too!

Big love -
Ross, Steve and Will xx

Donating on this page is simple, fast and totally secure,
and JustGiving will keep all of your personal details safe.

Once you donate, the money bypasses us and is send directly to the charity itself. If you are a UK taxpayer don't forget to click on the 'Gift-aid' button either! Doing this will enable the CF Trust to reclaim more money from the government (at no extra cost to you!), making it the most efficient way to donate. We raise more money, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Brilliant!
