Story
There is not alot you can do to train for altitude sickness, which is unfortunate as in seven days time I’ll be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, motivated by the idea of an eight day trek to look out from the highest point in Africa. My research tells me that while the first 5-6 days should be manageable, the last 24 hours are likely to be served with a healthy portion of vomiting, headaches, heart palpitations, and a light sprinkling of anxiety. I may have to dig deep.
The climb will also be an opportunity to raise money for Breast Cancer Now (formally Breakthrough). Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. It is a truly awful disease which seems to grab anyone it can (including numerous friends and family of mine), so raising money for research is vital. I don’t have a target amount of money to raise, but if you could give as much as you’re willing that would be amazing. All donations go to the charity.
I actually have a fear of flying and am slightly concerned about the six flights it will take to get me there and back. There is nothing to help me train for that either! Thanks for your support.
