Story
I've been friends with Mark Fish from around the time he set up Room to Heal, about 10 years ago. Because of this, I've seen some of the incredible work that goes on within the RTH community.
Room to Heal supports refugees and asylum seekers who have experienced torture and human rights abuses.
I feel privileged to have met and chatted with members of the community over the years, and to have learned a bit about their life-stories and current situations. Many of them have had hard and traumatic experiences, and are now separated from their family and friends.
Room to Heal offers a space for the members to belong to a community and an opportunity to feel warmth and connection and to talk and to laugh. The team at RTH support the members to improve their situation and rebuild their lives, as they are often stuck in limbo for years. The team also helps prevent them being sent back home to dangerous circumstances.
I'm late with getting this fundraising post out but it would be great to raise some awareness and perhaps even some money for the important work that goes on at Room to Heal. If you’d like to find out more, please check out http://roomtoheal.org/ or perhaps come to the summer party? (which is more fun than it sounds - there’s storytelling, food, drinks, dancing, singing)
Thanks, Tim
*PS - I might walk a little bit. My potato-shaped body is not made for running.
