Story
First of all thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Timothy Alan Boultwood aged 53 tragiacally died on 04/01/09 after contracting Necrotising Fasciitis. At first it was just thought to be flu, however after a couple of days he began to get agonising pains in his legs and was admitted to Hospital. For the first 24 hours the doctors worked as hard as they could but were unable to diagnose the problem. Eventually after some lengthy consultation with senior doctors they established it was most likely NF, and a short time later he was taken into surgery to have his right leg amputated. Sadly the amputation did not stop the spread of NF and he became more and more ill whilst sedated until he eventually passed away sunday evening. He was in Hospital for 48hours in total before being pronounced dead.
The 'Lee Spark' Foundation was set up up in January 2000 by Doreen Marsden after the tragic loss of her son Lee spark. The charity works to Inform, support and represent the interests of patients and all individuals affected by NF. They work to promote early signs, symptoms, causes, effects, treatment and management. Dad was extremely fit and a keen marathon runner, I was meant to be running the Reading Half marathon on 29th March this year with him. I intend to run the half marathon still, along with my friend who has offered to run in my Dad's place. We had also talked of climbing Mont Blanc this year at some point so i would still like to do this too. We really want to raise some money to help in any way especially creating awareness of NF as so little seems to be known about this. So i was planning on doing both the climb and half marathon as sponsored events to raise money for NF. The Climb is a work in progress and has yet to be finalised but the half marathon will be going ahead in March so any donations for this would be greatly appreciated.
