I am running for The Helen Kirkland Trust in memory of Helen, the sister of a very close friend and GSK colleague, who died from long QT syndrome(an abnormality in the heart's electrical system) in 1998 at the age of 30 fit and active but as she described herself "with botched wiring". Helen was a Doctor who specialised in the treatment of cancer and so I am very proud to help her name live on in the support of medical research to something  that, current estimates, suggest affects 1 in 5000 people in the UK.

Since 1998 The Trust has sponsored research for three Fellows at Cambridge and a Scholar from the Mayo Clinic in the USA into the causes of this condition with the aim that it may lead to new treatments, and has led to many publications in this field helping advance our medical professions' scientific understanding. Another amazing thing is that this Trust is administered with no overheads so every penny raised go straight to charity !!

I will really appreciate your support to run this 26 miles on the day.....but don't forget the few hundred miles I'm running in training. This photo was me on Boxing Day whilst most others were in the warm, or in fact in bed as it was 7.30am !!
