Forfar Triathlon · 21 July 2019

The main activities of the charity are search and rescue of missing or injured persons in the hills of Tayside Region and beyond, the provision of training and equipment for the mountain rescue team members and the raising of funds to support such activities.

Story

Hey dudes, it was going to happen so I thought I may as well 'tri' and raise a little money for a fantastic local cause. We are incredibly lucky to have a Mountain rescue service staffed entirely by volunteers that is the envy of the world.

I am passionate about moving (relatively) quickly in our beautiful remote places. There is so much variety and wildness from airy ridges, cathedral-like carved corries, and unexpected lochins and waterfalls. It's great to know that if things do not go to plan there are people who give their time and step into some of the most challenging conditions to help you and ask nothing in return!

Please give what you can and go and explore some wild places.

Side note about the event.

Forfar tri is a pool based sprint distance triathlon. That means 750m of swimming, rapid transition to the bike for a 20k road tt, then into the road shoes for a 5k blast to the loch and back.

The bike bit suites me well, pushing hard for 20k is definitely my comfort zone, 5k on the hoof is right around when it stops feeling horrible and I settle in for many more k's. I'm never going to be a sprinter but will throw down as hard as I can. The swim is the tricky bit, all the swimming I have done so far I have done with one of those wee float things between your legs. My leg kick is non-existing. I used a kickboard in the pool the other day and literally didn't move despite splashing and kicking like someone had dropped a toaster in the bath. I have 100 days so fingers crossed I can get them floating at least!! I'm certainly not going to be fast fast but given all the distances should be doable I will aim to push as hard as I can. Thanks for your support.
