Boston Marathon 2010 · 19 April 2010 ·

Get Kids Going! helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. They can then compete in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball etc. With your help, many could become Paralympic champions and world record holders.

Story

Hi. I got a place in the Boston Marathon and I thought that it would be pretty cool to raise some money for charity whilst I'm training.

It can be really frustrating if you want to get out and play sport, but have a few mobility issues that get in the way- take it from me. That's why I've chosen GetKids Going. Get Kids Going gives disabled children freedom and/or opportunities to get involved in sport. More than 200,000 disabled kids and young people in the UK need specialised wheelchairs, trikes or other moblity equipment. Another 50,000 need sports wheelchairs to let them compete in their chosen sport.

Getting back into running, my goal was always to qualify for a major U S race. Boston is the world's oldest marathon, run every year on Patriot's Day, April 19th. With a field size of 25,000 participants, the route begins in rural Hopkinton and runs through eight cities and towns before finishing in Boston's Back Bay... but it's tough. It's 26.22 miles (42.195km) of winding roads in the hilly New England terrain. It is considered to be one of the more difficult marathon courses because of the Newton Hills which culminate in the notorious "Heartbreak Hill' near Boston College.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it's the most efficient way to donate.
