Story

Dear Friends,

Well I did the swim. It was a very windy day on Sunday and a strong current was flowing from the Southwest.( The antarctic!!!- well is is eventually) The kitesurfers were already out which was a bad sign!!!!!The week before on the(only) full distance training swim I had seen a whale and calf about 200 metres from where I was swimming. Lots of nature going on here !!!!! No submarines though. I have since learnt that the first one will be launched in 2021 so although my swim was slow I think I could do the Atlantic and back before Lulas's ego is finally fulfilled. Thanks to that wonderful current I did the crossing in 54 minutes. I think I was 4th from last.Raoul did it in 35 minutes and was 4th!!!!. Kind of symmetrical really.Anyway to those of you that have already donated to St Peters hospice on just giving- a very big thank you. We are nearly there £460 and the target is £500. For those of you that have not yet donated but intend to NOW IS THE TIME!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks

Tom

Dear friends,

Attached is a photo of me with Raul- a great friend and Sao Paulo states 2008 long distance swimming champion. That really is true in spite of the funny hat.

Sorry that this is one of those scamming letters especially from a tinpot country like Brasil but here goes. I call it a tinpot country as Barclays recently refused to send my replacement debit card here as they considered it as an at risk country( 3rd world). I told them about Brasils' new nuclear submarine building programme- seven new hunter killers. They were unimpressed.

Mums last few weeks were spent in the fantastic care of St Peters Hospice in Bristol. She was very comfortable there and died peacefully with Denis at her side on August 18th.

I would like to raise a bit of money for St Peters as a way of saying thanks and so have entered a sort of swimming race from the Brasillian mainland to Ilha Bela. The distance is around 2 miles. The same as the new Severn Bridge crossing!!!! Pleased to say that the channel here does not have an 18 metre tidal range nor swirling brown raging currrents or even a bore but it is still quite a long way and we have sharks, jelly fish and oil tankers to avoid. The race is on 13th September and I aim to do it in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Actually just doing it is enough. There is another race from here to a place called Carraguatatuba that is 27km's. I will not be doing that one though if I get a bit lost I guess it is possible. I would like to ask you to donate £10 if you can and of course if I do it!!!! Anyway I will let you know if I come back and then where to send the money to. If I encounter any of the new hunter killer nuclear subs then I am going to let Barclays know.

I will be cutting my hair by the way in order to achieve maximum hydrodynamic efficiency.

Kindest regards

Tom
