Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.

Hopefully you are aware by now that I will be running the Asics British10k Run in July to raise money for the sickle cell society.

Having run the Boston Marathon for the Jimmy Fund foundation previously and raised $1000 for cancer, I wanted continue my personal goal of running a marathon in every major city in the world for a cause that genuinely strives to help and change lives.

I have chosen the Sickle Cell Society because it is charity that aims to educate, fund raise and raise awareness for a genetic blood disorder that largely effects the ethnic population, which include well recognised people such as T-Boz (TLC), Miles Davis, Larenz Tate, Tiki Barber (NY Giants) and Alvin Johnson (aka Prodigy of Mobb Deep) to name a few from the sports and entertainment world.

The disease is usually presenting in childhood and is characterised by the Red Blood Cells taking an abnormal (sickle) shape which results in a mutation of the haemoglobin gene and decreases the cells flexibility and inevitably causes medical complications (painful episodes, Acute papillary necrosis etc) in addition to shortened life expectancy.

If my efforts and contribution help a few others including friends, peers and family more aware of the effects of sickle cell in children and adults then I have aided in some way.

Please show your love for a disease that effects lives and perhaps doesn’t get the recognition it deserves buy donating what you can.

Thanks and see you at the finish line.
