Story
How far do you need to go to have an adventure ?
Well, sometimes not very far at all, and if that adventure raises a few quid for a good cause then all the better. At 1am on Sunday 18th September, along with around 600 other cyclists, I set off from the Trafford Centre, Manchester, on a 60 mile bike ride to Blackpool in aid of the British Heart Foundations mending broken hearts appeal.
Being a Manchester lad this was an adventure starting on my own doorstep, all I needed was my bike (with lights) and some bananas ! The bike I already had and a certain well know supermarket provided the bananas.
In spite of some torrential showers there was no dampening of any spirits, the atmosphere was fantastic and the sight of all those red lights snaking along the A6 to Preston was quite magical. Before I knew it I was riding along the Prom under the famous Blackpool illuminations, we'd left the rain behind and daylight was just beginning to illuminate the even more famous tower. It all seemed to have passed too quickly, we had a brew swapped our stories of floods, getting lost and which bits hurt then it was off for a 'full English', a hot bath and some much needed sleep.
Heart disease has affected many people and amazing advances have been made in treating this condition but there's lots more to do, please help by sponsoring me.
I'll be signing up for next years adventure, it's a great event for a great cause.
