Story
100,000 children in the UK will be homeless this Christmas.
A child's Christmas should be exciting - eating too much, playing games, wondering if they'll see the presents they wished for under the tree. But 100,000 children won't have room for a tree - let alone space to sit around a table for Christmas dinner. Many will also be in temporary accommodation hundred of miles from family and friends.
This year I'd like to help them and ensure better times to come.
On Christmas morning I'll be setting off from the AMCI office (Banbury, UK) on a freezing cold driving challenge across the highways and byways of the UK and possibly even further. Many people won't have a roof above their head this Christmas so nor will I.
#topdownwhatevertheweather
Mazda UK have very kindly lent me an all-new Mazda MX-5 and my employers, AMCI, have agreed that they will sponsor me for fuel and costs throughout the trip.
For every pound I raise I will drive a mile with the top down in freezing winter weather. Here are some potential targets for my fundraising:
£500 / 500 miles = could get me to the major landmarks of the UK.
£874 / 874 miles = could get me from Land's End to John O' Groats.
£1000 / 1000 miles = Land's End to John O' Groats, every country in the UK and all major landmarks.
£2000 / 2000 miles = Coastal lap of the UK, Land's End, John O' Groats, every country in the UK and all major landmarks.
£???? / ????? miles = It would be amazing to make any more than that and if we do I will plan accordingly. If we make enough I plan to drive across the mountains of continental Europe or even up to Lapland. Now how's that for Christmas spirit!
I'll be tweeting, blogging and posting on social media throughout the experience. I also hope for the vehicle to be trackable so you can see where I am at any time.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE donate generously. I cannot think of a better cause at this time of year. If your budget is tight just give what you can. Every single penny is going to charity.
Thanks to Mazda for the vehicle and AMCI for sponsoring my fuel. Looking forward to the challenge and for making money for such a worthy charity.
