Story

As most of you know we have recently been away and our first stop was to volunteer at Feeding Dreams in Cambodia. We have seen first hand what a great charity Feeding Dreams is and how it gives so many children and their families opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise. Poverty is unfortunately very high in Cambodia and they face daily struggles which mostly stem from lack of money, this leads to bad hygiene, malnutrition and poor/no education.

Feeding Dreams helps by providing a daily meal to all the children as well as teaching them English and Maths to help improve their future prospects. Feeding Dreams is full of friendly teaches who themselves are often still in higher education which they attend each night after a long day at school. The amount of volunteers range from just a couple to 6 or 7, it just depends on the time of year etc.

There are several ways in which you could help:

Sponsoring a child. This means these children need not spend their days and nights helping their parents collect litter in exchange for a very small wage, or looking after younger siblings. It means they can attend school without their family suffering further. This is a serious commitment to be made as the family will rely on this generous donation on a monthly basis so please consider carefully. A monthly sponsorship of $50 will pay for formal Khmer school and exam fees, a daily meal for the child, textbooks and exercise books, English and Maths lessons at the Feeding Dreams school. These are all things that the families may often not be able to afford otherwise. A 6 monthly update of you sponsor child with photos will be sent to you to keep you in the loop. Details of this are found on their website.

A one off donation to Feeding Dreams. This can help them pay for items for the new school that is currently being renovated. It could buy a bicycle for a family which is so precious to these children who travel far to school each day. A donation of USD $100 will provide 600 nutritional meals for the school children, We can honestly say we have seen how essential these meals are for many of these children with some of them coming back for third helpings! Any donation is a great help.

Volunteer! If you are heading to South East Asia and want to make a difference then let them know in advance of you arriving, take any goodies you can with you (they have a wish list in their website) and spend some time having such happy children climbing all over you, teaching them English and letting them make you smile every day :-)

There are a few of us completing Tough Mudder and although its typically to raise money for 'Help for Heroes', I feel this is such an important cause that its worth considering helping all those happy little faces.
