From 8th June 2010 to 6th August 2010 a group of cyclists are getting on their bikes in an attempt to raise money for children’s cancer charities in Northern Ireland and cycle from the West coast to the East coast of America (approximately 4500 miles).

The Trek Margarita cycle is being pursued in honour of the daughter of one of the cyclists, Margarita Kelly who sadly lost her 8 year battle with cancer in June 2009 at the age of 20.

Always smiling, considerate and caring Margo was a true inspiration. Margarita wanted to be an Oncologist to help others afflicted by cancer. On the eve of Margo’s passing she tasked each family member with what she thought they should do during their lives.

Mark Kelly (Margo's Dad) had gathered his friends and family together and ridden the length of Ireland on a couple of occasions. During the 'Trek Ireland Tours', songs were written and funds raised bringing 'great spirit' and fun into everyone's lives during the time of Margarita's illness.

It was Margarita’s wish that her Dad cycle across America for cancer charities, and so Trek Margarita was born!  Its taken very little  to motivate and get people on board and the Trek Margarita has grown with every conversation!

Whether you had met Margarita or simply heard about her struggle one could not help but be moved and inspired by the quality of Margarita’s character and her family support. Trek Margarita carries the legacy of the great work and support provided by the Charities involved during Margarita’s struggle and will live on for many years to come.

Margarita’s courage and determination will help to inspire us along the way and raise as much money as we can to support the wonderful work done by these charities who provide medical, social and emotional support to children and their families affected by this life threatening disease.
