Thank you for supporting the Hackney Pirates - Marisa volunteers with them and having attended 7 sessions has now achieved the status of Sea Dog!

It's a great organisation that works with children in Hackney who have been nominated by their schools because they could do with some additional help with their reading and confidence. During the sessions we spend time reading with the children and helping them work on creative writing projects.

On average, 9 year olds that come to the Pirates are 13 months behind and 11 year olds are 28 months behind the reading and writing age they need to keep up with their peers.
